This week we launched an early version of our new Linked Data publishing platform, PublishMyData.

What’s PublishMyData for?

With PublishMyData, we have 2 main aims:

  • to help data owners publish their data as high quality Linked Data, in a way that makes it easy to find, understand and use.
  • to make it as easy as possible for software developers to use the data published on our platform.

What is a Linked Data publishing platform?

Many organisations have data that they publish on the web, or would like to. Often this is done by simply providing downloads of CSV or XML files.

This is certainly a good start, but it provides an obstacle to understanding and re-using the data. Before you can do anything, you need to download a potentially large file, and then (assuming you’ve got the right file) you have to examine it to understand its structure. If you’re a software developer and you want to do anything interesting with the data, you’ll probably need to import it into a database. And tracking changes to the data adds a heap more problems.

We’re trying to improve this process by providing a way for organisations to easily publish their data as Linked Data (more details about Linked Data).

All data published on our platform is available to browse on our website, making it easy to find, understand and use. Software developers who wish to re-use the data in their applications can use our API to query and consume the data in different formats (full downloads of the data will still be available).

Data publishing should be an extension to an organisation’s existing online presence, so we also work with organisations to integrate the data into their existing website in their own individual style.

What next?

It’s still very early days for PublishMyData. At the moment, we have only published a small amount of data, but we’re adding more all the time. As our body of data grows, we’ll add more interesting ways to explore it.

The service is still ‘beta’ and some details might change, but we’ll be sticking to the core principles and standards of Linked Data, so the important stuff is pretty stable and we’re only publishing what we think is good quality, reliable data.

If you’ve got data to publish, please get in touch and tell us about it. We’d love to help.

Please let us know how you get on with using the data we’ve already published. We’ve got a long list of features to add – we’d be really interested to hear what you’d like to see next.

Want more?

You can find out more about the service at If you’d like to be kept up to date with developments, please register for our PublishMyData newsletter. We’ll only email occasionally and we’ll never share or sell your address.
